William Potter & Frances Elaine Urbanik's courtship

When they first met: Summer High School. My grandpa was dating one of my grandma's best friends. Frances didn't think much of Bill at first. They saw one another again at college in the fall and Bill often came to Cook's (The Malt Shop) where grandma worked. They started to date the first of December. Their 1st date was to a movie and their 2 nd date was when Bill came to watch the Blue Debs perform at the Armory. Afterward they went to a dance. He kissed her for the 1st time when he took her home.

She began working in a coal mine in 1980. She's one tough lady.

From what I can remember of my Grandma she was truly remarkable. Yes sometimes she and I would have our moments of where we would butt heads but I believe that was in part to us being similar in personalities. She truly loved her family and loved to be with her kids and grand kids.

In August 2007 she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. She passed away in November 2007 after an incredible battle. I remember that she wasn't feeling well before she was officially diagnosed. When I graduated from High School in June she wasn't feeling well and was unable to make it to my graduation.

The Family

The Family

The family is like a book.
The children are the leaves
The parents are the cover
that protecting beauty gives.

At first the pages of the book
Are blank and purely fair,
But time soon writeth memories
And painteth pictures there.

Love is the little golden clasp
That bindeth up the trust;
Oh, break it not, lest all the leaves
Should scatter and be lost!

What is a name?

The meanings for all of my names:

Alexis: (found on ohbabynames.com)

started out as a masculine given name derived from the same root as Alexander, from the Greek “alexin” meaning “to defend, protect”. While the Greek Alexandros means more specifically “protector of mankind”, Alexis means more plainly “to protect” (ward off, defend, keep away).

Lee: (found on ohbabynames.com)

is the transferred use of an Olde English surname derived from place names. In Olde English, the word “lēah” stood for a “clearing” or an open space where villages and towns could be established, such as a wood clearing or meadow in a forested area. (more commonly used for a boys first name)

Ensign: (found on Dictonary.com)

* a flag or banner, as a military or naval standard used to indicate nationality.

* a badge of office or authority, as heraldic arms.

* a sign, token, or emblem

* U.S. Navy and Coast Guard. the lowest commissioned officer, ranking next below a lieutenant, junior grade, and equal to a second lieutenant in the Army.
